Everything is a Remix

Kirby Ferguson

Filmmaker Kirby Ferguson explores centuries of culture to demonstrate how remixing -- creating music from samples of existing music -- is a good metaphor for all kinds of creativity. He discusses some of the myths of creativity, presents several popular examples of remix-like technique, and shows how creativity -- like remixing -- is the result of three basic techniques: copying, transforming and combining. He concludes by investigating how this view of creativity clashes with current laws and norms.
